Alex McCann has been practicing law for over 30 years. He began his career at a large firm, making partner in six years. His desire to work more closely with his clients and have the freedom to determine how he helps people, led him to open his own practice in 2000. Through decades of building a strong professional network, he offers his clients all the attributes of a larger firm, while providing the personal service and flexibility of a small practice.
His passion for helping people, and desire to find justice, is evident in his significant contributions to Maine case law. He has successfully argued multiple cases before Maine’s Supreme Court, positively impacting the law for working men and women. Because of Alex’s extensive experience in statutory construction, case law and legislative history, he is able to effectively present complex cases, yielding excellent results for his clients.
Alex grew up in South Portland, the youngest of nine children. His parents instilled in him a strong sense of service, giving back to the community and the importance of helping others. Being part of a large family meant learning the value of hard work early on. Like many Mainers, Alex put himself through college and law school, beginning as a dockhand at DiMillo’s and ending as Chief of Staff to the Massachusetts’ Senate Judiciary Committee.
All of these experiences shaped Alex into the person he is today. He truly is wired to “go to bat” for the little guy and has created his own, particularly effective, approach to lawyering. He values the life story each person brings to him. How that story is told can make the difference between winning and losing. Alex knows how to skillfully and effectively tell your story.
His education after South Portland High School includes the University of Southern Maine, Boston College, and Suffolk Law School, where he graduated in 1990. Since then he has been practicing law in his home state of Maine. He enjoys spending time with his two adult children, along with his large circle of friends and family. He can often be found by the ocean, in the woods, or out exploring our beautiful state.
